the truth now: Aren’t we all a little tired of Christmas music?
No, not White Christmas or, heaven forbid, Blue Christmas. I am
talking about some of these questionable versions of classic songs
by folks who really should know better.
Bob Dylan? Tell me it ain’t so!
I just
got this CD from Jana Mashonee and I love it. I don't understand
a single word she sings on it, but emotion flows from it like a
gurgling river in a snowy mountain scene painted by Bob Timberlake.
Jana is a Native
American singer from Lumberton, N.C. and these songs are sung in
various Native American languages. Talk about different, interesting,
and beautiful Christmas music, this one has it all. Here is the

I have traded
emails with Jana Mashonee after my first hub on her music and I
call her “Jana”. She calls me “Old White Man Who
Stalks Me On the Internet”. It’s an Indian name.
Anyway, I became
interested in her and did a little research about Lumberton, N.C.
and found that it is located in Robeson County. The University of
North Carolina at Pembroke is located in Robeson County and is historically
a Native American University. Native Americans make up 38% of the
population while blue eyed devils are only 32%.
The Lumbee Indian Tribe is the largest tribal nation east of the
Mississippi River and I found another fascinating tidbit of info
on Wikipedia:
“Until
late in the 20th century, Robeson County was a center of Klu Klux
Klan activity and support in North Carolina. On January 18, 1958,
armed Lumbee Native Americans chased off an estimated 50 Klansmen
and supporters led by grand wizard James W. “Catfish”
Cole at the town of Maxton in the Battle of Hayes Pond.”
The event makes
for some fascinating reading and I have provided a couple of links
at the bottom of this hub. I have had to work two Klan parades as
a cop and found them pathetic and sad. The worst for me was seeing
children of Klansmen marching in a parade to promote hatred and
intolerance. What hope do these kids have? It’s pitiful, really.
That last paragraph
kind of got me down so I have taken the opportunity to do something
nice. I swiped a video from youtube of one of Jana's songs and posted

singer-songwriter and actress. She describes herself as an

maintain my traditional customs while living in today’s

It doesn't happen often but every ten or twenty years, the stars are aligned correctly, the right talent comes together at the right time and another song of the decade comes alone. It's my opinion that "A Change Is Gonna Come" as recorded on the CD is one of those songs. Although this has an R&B tone to it, it might be 10 years from now that a whole bunch of people look back and say this CD was the point at which a new type of music was invented. Aside from R&B, there is a little bit of Native American, a little bit of Spanish, a little bit of rock, a whole lot of inspiration and a massive amount of talent. Jana, Stephan and the band has changed my whole perspective of where music is headed these days with this CD. It's refreshing to see pure talent with something new instead of rehashes!

What a work
of art! This necklace features the impressive image of the eagle made
from hand carved stones of block Turquoise. This necklace design was
a hot seller in the eighties and is coming back big-time due to the fact that this is like the necklace Internationally known Native American Singer Jana Mashonee often wears on stage. This Turquoise has been set in the brilliance
of shimmering Sterling Silver to complete the eagle with an illustrious
high shine. It has a box link chain for flexibility. The eagle itself comes in Four different sizes and spans 2.25 inches, 2.75 inches, 3 5/8th inches or the 4 inch span just like Jana Mashonee is wearing in the various photos.
The total length of this necklace is 24" but you can adjust the chain so you can wear it either as a choker or a longer necklace and the chain adjustment gives you a perfect fit.
Turquoise will vary slightly from piece to piece. Carved Turquoise, Mother of Pearl Beak, Sterling Silver Feet, Sterling Sliver Hinges, 24 Inch Sterling Sliver Chain that is adjustable so you can use it as a choker or longer neckplace. Note: These hard carved Eagle Necklaces are Navajo made. However, please be advised that the turquoise will vary on them and that they are in very very limited supply as the carver who makes the big ones can only produce about 18 a month. To Native Americans, the eagle embodied not only ferocity but also purity,
for it flew high in the atmosphere, where the air was clearest - and
where, in the belief of many Indians, the Great Spirit resided. Those
who wished to ask something of the Great Spirit sometimes sent their
message by way of the eagle spirit. Some believe birds to be symbols
of the soul, as well as intermediaries to the gods. Seeking their cooperation,
Native Americans have plied bird spirits with offerings and performed
dances to honor and beseech them. Pleas are sent skyward in the smoke
of burning tobacco. Feathers are often considered the most potent part
of the bird and are passed down as cherished symbols of the power bestowed
by those creatures that soar in the lofty realms where many of the gods

Handmade Jana Mashonee Turquoise Squash Blossom
Sterling silver 16 turquoise stone squash blossom. There are 4 blossoms along each side measuring 1" from blossom to stone. There are silver leaves next to each stone along with twist wire design. The naja has 8 turquoise stones with 1 single stone that dangles in the middle. The naja is approximately 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/4" high at tallest point. It is strung with sterling silver beads and is 22" long. It is a Navajo made squash. $339.00

Handmade Jana Mashonee Large Turquoise Squash Blossom
Sterling silver 19 turquoise free from stone squash. There are 6 blossoms on each side, each measures 2 1\4" long from blossom to edge. Each stone is surrounded by silver work wirh drops, leaves and rosettes. The naja has 7 free from turquoise stones with center stone having the same silver work as the blossoms. The naja measures approximately 3" wide and 2 3/4" lone at tallest point. This squash is strung with sterling silver beads and measures 30" long. This is a navajo done squash. $846.00
