We had the great opportunity to attend a Jana Mashonee
concert in Ponca City, Oklohoma Dec. 4th of 2010. All I can
say is that if you think Jana Mashonee's CDs are great and have
not heard her in person, you are in for a great treat. I do not
believe
that there is anyone else in the world who can sing like her! Barbara
Thomas caught something in Ponca City I have had for a while. I
call it
JanaMania and I am hoping you will catch it soon too!
Jana
started out with Enlightened Times, went into all her great
music including playing A Change Is Gonna Come, did some Christmas
Songs and went into some wild funk where everyone stood up as her
hoop dancer did these amazing stunts. With Jana's Dancer and
Stephan on guitar, it's just a perfect combination.
When
the show was over, Jana doesn't leave the building until she
has personally talked with everyone who attended her concert. She
signs photos and poses so everyone can get their photo with
her if you want. I say that life is not complete until you attend
at least one Jana Mashonee Concert.

language including Amazing Grace in Lumbee. Jana is a Lumbee-Tuscarora
singer-songwriter and actress. She describes herself as an
Urban Indian. “Being an Urban Indian, is to walk in
both worlds but not compromise my cultural identity. I cannot
ignore who I am and where I came from. I am proud that I can
maintain my traditional customs while living in today’s
world.” She is also an active motivational speaker for
Native American youth, supporting such organizations as U.N.I.T.Y.

My Take On This CD! By Ralph Thomas
It doesn't happen often but every ten or twenty years, the stars are aligned correctly, the right talent comes together at the right time and another song of the decade comes alone. It's my opinion that "A Change Is Gonna Come" as recorded on the CD is one of those songs. Although this has an R&B tone to it, it might be 10 years from now that a whole bunch of people look back and say this CD was the point at which a new type of music was invented. Aside from R&B, there is a little bit of Native American, a little bit of Spanish, a little bit of rock, a whole lot of inspiration and a massive amount of talent. Jana, Stephan and the band has changed my whole perspective of where music is headed these days with this CD. It's refreshing to see pure talent with something new instead of rehashes!
