The original words of great Native leaders are recorded here by many of their descendants. Cedar flute, quiet chanting, drum and nature sounds provide a comfortable background soundscape. Sitting Bull, Chief Seattle, Crazy Horse, Black Elk, respected Sun Dance leaders and the teachings of medicine men are all part of this special project in addition to the spoken word portions there are songs by Eli Battese, Marvin Helper, Everett Poor Thunder and his ensemble and "Lakota Women's Power Song" sung by Nyla Helper. Proceeds from the album go to various Native organizations. Recorded in the sacred Black Hills of South Dakota.

Gourd Woman (Mary Louise Defender Wilson) is a Dakotah/Hidatsa Elder born into a family of storytellers on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Eagle Heart (Francis Cree) is an Ojibway Elder and storyteller born on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation of North Dakota who has become a recognized spiritual leader and healer. Each of these gifted speakers re-tell their ancient stories from the mystical land of the northern prairies. Their stories are about creation, the forces of nature, the power of stones, plants and animals and the lessons revealed in all of these elements. Those of you who have CD Rom drives in your computer can look at the enchanced part of the CD. There are maps of the area and photographs and text about each story as well as explanations of many of the mysterious landmarks spoken of in the stories. One landmark is the remarkable stone structure representing the "woman that turned to stone" which can be seen on the Standing Rock Reservation today.

In 1994, the Spanish Mustang came back to the Blackfeet with the help of Robert and Ferdinand Brislawn who founded the first registry for this horse, once an important part of the Blackfeet culture. Darrell Norman sings in Blackfeet about the history of the Spanish Mustang and gives us a clear and moving poetic narrative enveloped by a contemporary musical background provided by Ramon Kramer and several talented musicians.
